Local Runner

Local Runner Installation

The Local Runner connects a user machine to AutoBP so browser automations can run inside the customer network.

Install The Runner

The runner is packaged as a desktop agent. It manages the local process lifecycle, connects outbound to the AutoBP server, and runs Playwright browser work on the user machine.

Local Runner installation steps and requirements.
1

Open the Download page from the top navigation.

2

Download the Windows installer or macOS disk image.

3

Install and launch the Local Runner.

4

Enter the AutoBP server URL and runner API key when prompted.

5

Confirm the tray icon or Dashboard shows Runner Online.

Network Requirements

The runner is designed for customer networks where inbound connections are blocked. It connects outbound to the server, so firewall rules usually need to allow outbound HTTPS or WebSocket traffic to the AutoBP host.

Practical Tips

  • Use the exact server URL provided by your administrator.
  • Check proxy and firewall rules if the runner cannot connect.
  • On macOS, allow the app in Privacy & Security if the system blocks first launch.

First Run Verification

After installation, verify both connectivity and browser execution before relying on the runner for business workflows.

1

Open the runner tray menu and confirm status is online.

2

Open AutoBP Dashboard and confirm the runner appears online.

3

Run a login-only or read-only smoke case.

4

Check that screenshots and logs appear in Execution results.

5

Document the server URL and runner version for support.

Upgrade Notes

Runner upgrades should preserve local configuration where possible, but teams should still validate connectivity after each upgrade.

Practical Tips

  • Stop the runner before installing a new version.
  • Keep one known-good installer available for rollback.
  • Validate a smoke case after upgrade before running scheduled work.
